The Chinese Language Program at Tianjin University (TJU) is structured to provide intensive, high-quality language training. Students are placed into elementary, intermediate, or advanced levels following a mandatory placement test. The program requires a full-time commitment, consisting of 20 academic hours per week (4 hours daily) from Monday to Friday. The standard study period is one semester, with the option to apply for extensions up to a maximum of four total semesters. Instruction is delivered in a small class setting, limited to approximately fifteen students per class, which ensures personalized attention.
The curriculum is designed for comprehensive language development, focusing on Core Language Courses including Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Comprehensive Chinese. Beyond language acquisition, TJU offers various elective opportunities. Students can enroll in specialized courses such as HSK Level 4-6 Tutoring and Business Chinese to meet specific academic or career goals. Furthermore, the program features a strong cultural component with optional Chinese Cultural Courses that offer hands-on experience in Tai Chi, Martial Arts, Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Chinese Cuisine, and more. Upon completion, students will be issued an official transcript and a Certificate of Completion.
